That’s because of Australia’s location in the world, “down under” and tucked away in a corner of the South Pacific.

To some we are still a very long way from anywhere decent but the (sometimes very) long flights to Australia are definitely worth the effort.

When you travel to Australia the flights are some of the longest in the world, depending on where you’re coming from, and even flights in Australia can take an age, but if you take a good book or two and some sleeping pills you’ll manage just fine.

Jet Lag.

When you travel to Australia, jet lag is almost certainly something you’ll have to deal with, and it’s not easy.

From my own experience I’ve found some things that you can do to make your flights to Australia a little more comfortable.

These things won’t help with the jet lag but they will help to ensure that you don’t suffer unduly during the flight and they will help you to avoid deep vein thrombosis which, in extreme cases, can be a killer, wouldn’t that spoil an otherwise wonderful holiday?

So, on your flights to Australia,

There is no ‘jet lag’ pill you can take and although some people believe you can lessen the effects of jet lag by going to bed early for a few days before you fly if you travel to Australia from the USA or Europe, or staying up later if you’re going home in the opposite direction, it never seems to work for me so I just grin and bear it until it goes away, usually only a day or two.

If you plan to travel to Australia from the USA, Qantas, Air New Zealand and United all have flights to Australia.

You can travel to Australia from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Sydney or Melbourne non-stop or connect through Honolulu or Auckland.

The flight Time from LA or San Francisco to Sydney or Melbourne non-stop is approximately thirteen hours.

If you plan to travel to Australia through Honolulu the flight time from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Honolulu is five hours and from Honolulu to Sydney or Melbourne is 10 hours or Los Angeles/San Francisco to Auckland is 11 hours and Auckland to Sydney or Melbourne about 3 hours.

If you’re planning to travel to Australia from Canada, Air Canada has flights to Australia from either Toronto or Vancouver to Sydney, connecting in Honolulu.

The flight time from Toronto to Honolulu is 9 hours, Vancouver to Honolulu flights are 5 ½ hours and flight time from Honolulu to Sydney is about 10 hours.

Both British Airways and Qantas fly from London to Sydney and Melbourne when you want to travel to Australia from the U.K.

Your connecting flights are from Singapore or Bangkok.

Flight time from London to Singapore or Bangkok is about 12 hours, and flights from Singapore and Bangkok to Sydney or Melbourne are about 8 ½ hours.

Royal Brunei also offers flights to Australia from London, stopping in Dubai and Bandar and arriving in Brisbane.

Frequent Flyer Points.

Qantas is part of the One World network along with American Airlines and British Airways and if you’re not already a member of a One World airline’s frequent flyer programme you can join American Airlines’ programme for free and earn points with Qantas flights, rather than paying to join the Qantas frequent flyer programme.

You can sign up for the American Airlines frequent flyer programme on their website .

Now…

People fly all over the world, and beyond in some cases, they fly for pleasure and they fly for business.

For some it would seem that they spend a good part of their lives in airports or aeroplanes, but...

We all know travelling by plane can be a nightmare.

Spending hours at the airport can test the patience of a saint....

Queuing endlessly can make your feet and back ache....

The security checks before you board are very comforting but can take forever....

Just getting cheap airline tickets can be a daunting prospect for some people.

You've got to go to the mall,

find a travel agent and then,

wait until someone is free to see you,

you've got to sit though the frustration of explaining what it is that you want,

wait while they check to see what discount flights are available and even put up with the sales pitch when they try to sell you something else that you didn't ask for in the first place.

NOT ANY MORE!
