The New South Wales South Coast.

The South Coast of New south Wales begins the moment you leave Sydney, providing, of course, that you’re heading south along the coast…duh!

The region offers a wonderful mix of beautiful countryside, magnificent mountain ranges and spectacular coastal scenery including some of the finest beaches in New South Wales.

Hyams Beach, beautiful. The South Coast is, by virtue of its mild weather, a place you can comfortably visit at any time of the year for a relaxing break or a more stimulating adventure with the region boasting a diverse range of activities to satisfy (almost) any itch you may have.

You can play golf on some of the finest courses in the land, swim or surf ‘til your heart’s content, watch dolphins and whales as they cavort among the waves, go bushwalking, enjoy a picnic, you name it and you’ll find it here somewhere.

The South Coast is a water wonderland, it’s a place to splash out and enjoy watersports of every kind – wave skiing, sea kayaking, surfing, snorkelling and diving, fishing are all yours to enjoy.

The area is also highly suited to self-drive visitors with some organised tours available from Sydney, Canberra or Melbourne.

Just 1 hour south of Sydney, the Grand Pacific Drive (140-km) takes you south from Sydney along a sensational coastline, through rainforests, seaside villages and passes through some of New South Wales’s most spectacular scenery and coastline.

The Grand Pacific Drive has gained a reputation as one of the State's most spectacular touring routes.

The high point of this visual spectacle is the dramatic 665 metre long Sea Cliff Bridge, a cantilever bridge perched 41 meters above sea level.

The New South Wales South Coast also takes pride in its cultural heritage.

From the many festivals held in the region each year to the extensive and excellent artistic scene, the craft and artisan villages and the unique indigenous and European heritage offers a wonderfully broad dimension to the visitor, to complement the attractions of the beautiful natural environment.

You can enjoy National Parks, untouched beaches, spectacular wilderness, rivers and mountains, the rural life and the big skies of the hinterland, and still have easy access to Australia's premier snowfields and alpine wilderness or to Sydney city with its famous parks, lakes and public buildings.

The South Coast also has numerous medal winning wineries that are well worth the visit and will compliment the seafood cuisine in any of the region's fishing villages.

There are few better places to tangle with exciting game fishing, offshore or estuary fishing than the waterways of the New South Wales South Coast.

Along the south coast's untouched coastline there are many surfing beaches and sheltered coves.

In the Jervis Bay region white beaches scallop much of the coastline, and Hyams Beach has been acclaimed as the whitest sand on earth.

At Huskisson, dolphin watch cruises head out into the bay. The resort town of Bateman's Bay is close to a string of beautiful pristine beaches.

Cruise the sparkling waters, explore the hinterland, fish from the beach, estuary or rocks, or just relax on the beach.

Daily cruises sail upriver past historic Nelligen, with its old steamer wharf.

At Pretty Beach, Depot Beach and Pebbly Beach in Murramarang National Park, north of Batemans Bay, don't be surprised if you end up sharing the beach with some tame eastern grey kangaroos.

Further south is Narooma, the place for watersports, and Montague Island, which offers a close up view of all kinds of wildlife including fairy penguins, whales, Australian fur seals and seabirds.

Nearby, the National Trust classified village of Central Tilba is the same today as it was in 1904 and in the beautiful green valleys of the hinterland is Bega, a town famous for its cheese.

More seaside towns offering the magic of surf, golden sand, fishing and boating include Merimbula, Eden, Tuross Head, Broulee, Bermagui and Tathra.

You can get to the region by car or you can fly to Wollongong, Merimbula and Moruya airports.

Yes the New South Wales South Coast is a wonderful place, go there soon and...............enjoy,

John.
