Restaurant Reviews.
I decided to start this page of restaurant reviews because Debbie and I have recently moved house.
What's moving house got to do with restaurant reviews you ask? Well, we like to eat out and although we like to try new restaurants and different menus we do have our favourites and we frequent them often.
Over the last 2 or 3 weeks we've been to a few restaurants we haven't visited before and the dining experience in each was not really what we expected.NOW..... When you're travelling and you hit a new town you've never been to before it's difficult to know where to go to eat. The great looking restaurant doesn't always have the best food, the eatery in the side street isn't always the cheapest. Hopefully that's where your restaurant reviews will help us all. If you've ever been out for a meal or bought take away food then you'll have something to say about it. Everyone has a story to tell about the great food or the lousy service, about the waiter who treated you like royalty or the one you caught leaving the restroom without washing his hands... We would like you to share your dining experiences with the rest of us so that when we travel we'll know where we can expect to get a good meal and which establishments to avoid.
This page of restaurant reviews will change over time as you all start to do your own restaurant reviews, if it grows to an unmanageable size (which, of course we hope it will) then I'll split it up but in the meantime use the form just below to send us your restaurant reviews and we'll publish them for all the world to see. To start things off here are my opinions about our recent dining experiences. (Perhaps I should mention here that we are very fussy when it comes to eating out, we expect to get good value for our money and we also expect to get great service so our ratings might be a little tough, you decide.)
Dicky Beach Surf Club: Dicky Beach, Sunshine Coast, Queensland. They call their restaurant "The Wreck" and while it wasn't quite that bad it wasn't the best either. The service was fine, no real complaints there but the food left a little to be desired. On the Sunshine Coast I expect to get not just good seafood but great seafood, after all they catch it right here.
We both had a meal of barramundi and we together we formed the opinion that it was spoilt by both the breadcrumbs which Debbie had on her fish and the beer batter which I had on mine. On Debbie's fish the breadcrumbs were hard and dry and on mine the batter was so thick that it would have spoilt the taste of any fish. It's a real shame when what might have been a reasonably good meal was spoilt by just not taking enough care. The restaurant was also very noisy, understandable of course, it is a family restaurant after all and kids will make a bit of noise if their parents don't control them but it didn't make the experience any more enjoyable. Overall we give "The Wreck" perhaps a 4 out of 10.
The Coffee Club: Bulcock Beach, Caloundra, Queensland. We went here for just a dessert on New Years Day, about 3 in the afternoon, Not many people in the restaurant, it was possibly half full which means they're not really all that busy. We waited about 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table with a menu, she was very polite and we ordered a slice of mud cake and a slice of "New York" cheesecake with both cream and ice-cream. The desserts were quite delicious although I was a little disappointed with the mud cake but we waited about 40 minutes for it to arrive at the table.
Considering there was no cooking involved, we didn't even order coffee, there really is no excuse. I even had to wait to pay the bill! To be fair when I mentioned to the manager that they needed more staff she did say that some had called in sick, whether that is the case or not I don't know but I get the feeling that perhaps, being a public holiday when staff get penalty rates.... I'll go back there again and update this review and keep you all informed. On this visit our rating is about a 4 out of 10.
Mooloolaba Surf Club: On the beach, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.Debbie and I went here for lunch one day during the holidays and although it was quite busy we found that it was a very pleasant experience. We sat at a table overlooking the beach and the surf and although you have to queue to order your food the queue wasn't too long.
Once ordered the food comes to your table and again the wait wasn't too long, perhaps just long enough to get your juices flowing. The food when it arrived was delicious, what more can I say? The restaurant was a little noisy, again it's a family restaurant with children chatting away but there was no loud noises from the kids, no children running around, altogether a very pleasant experience. We'll go there again, often if it doesn't change. Our rating for the Mooloolaba Surf Club is an 8 out of 10.
Everyone has a restaurant rave, good or bad...
Everyone who's eaten out or bought takeaway at some stage in their life has a restaurant story to tell.
Did you get great service and great food?
Was the food great but the service lousy or was the whole thing a very expensive disappointment?
Give our visitors the benefit of your dining experience so they can also enjoy the great food and miss the lousy service.
PS Don't limit this to your Australian restaurant experience, we have visitors from all over the world and they all want to know where to eat and where to avoid.
