Bus Travel in Australia.

Bus travel in Australia is one of the most popular ways to get around.

Buses, or coaches as they are often called, go virtually everywhere and many bus companies allow you to get on and off as often as you like on your journey.

Scheduled bus travel in Australia provides you with some of the best travel deals when you travel by bus on the bus network.

It's simple, economical and most important, very social...

Bus travel in Australia is now very comfortable. It's also comfortable, with air-conditioning, big adjustable seats and on-board toilets.

Some buses also have televisions and the latest videos... bus travel is everyday travel for many Australians.

There is a large network of bus routes, both interstate and intrastate with lots of companies to choose from on the more heavily travelled routes between Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and along the east coast through Brisbane to Cairns in North Queensland,

The competition between different bus companies and the Australian train network keeps the prices down making it a cheap and easy way to get around.

Once you start to head west from Adelaide, there is less competition and the distances between towns are much longer making it a less cost effective transport option than travelling by rail.

Your very own Greyhound bus.

The main bus company in Australia is Greyhound Australia.

Greyhound Australia offer services around all of Australia along most of the major highways.

There are smaller services which operate around the cities and in specific areas.

These smaller bus companies offer a more comprehensive service within a specific limited area, and there are also other state specific services including Firefly and Premier Stateliner in South Australia, V/Line in Victoria, and Westrail in Western Australia.

If you belong to the YHA you might get a discount.

Many companies offer discount for members of the Youth Hostels Association, students and holders of other approved cards and although prices are generally cheap for individual service, if you plan to do a lot of travelling by bus then you should check out some of the passes that the major companies offer.

Greyhound Australia offer several different passes depending upon what your particular requirements are.

The Aussie Day Pass gives either 7, 10 or 15 days of travel over 30 days or 21 days of travel over 60 days.

This is great if you are on a holiday visa and have a short amount of time, although you may not get as much value as with one of the unlimited travel passes.

The Aussie Explorer Pass includes 24 different routes around Australia, which you can choose and follow like a tour.

The Olgas, you'll see them on your bus tour through the Red Centre. These include sections of Australia, as well as a complete loop around the whole of the country and through the Red Centre.

Another pass is the Aussie Kilometre Pass, where you pay for the amount of kilometres that you travel.

Another great way to get around Australia is by the Oz Experience buses.

They give service to all of the major centres in Australia, diverting, seemingly at the whim of the driver, to some interesting places along the way.

You can get on and off where you please, and stay as long as you like (within the time limit of your ticket expiry, of course).

From my experience it’s a great way to make new friends if you are travelling alone, or just want to meet new people.

Aussie Explorer bus passes give you a wide choice of cheap bus travel options and are valid from 1 to 12 months from your first date of travel... with all bus tickets being interchangeable on all Greyhound Pioneer and McCafferty's services.

Look, a McCafferty's bus... Aussie Explorer Bus Passes are designed with the independent traveller in mind - very flexible and affordable and great bus travel deals: they allow unlimited stops along a pre-determined route...

You may combine as many bus passes as you like and these will take you to all of the places you could wish to see in this huge, historic and scenically diverse continent.

Choose a pre-set travel route and you can stop off as often as you like, travelling in one direction... All bus passes are available in reverse order... Selected passes include free bus tours as well as transfers to destinations like Kakadu National Park and Ayers Rock...

An example of the wonderful scenery you'll see from your bus window.

Aussie Kilometre bus passes are valid for 12 months from the first date you travel by bus and are interchangeable on all Greyhound Pioneer and McCafferty's Greyhound bus services.

The Aussie Kilometre Pass gives you one of the best bus travel deals available as well as giving you flexibility and freedom.

This bus pass allows you to travel within the McCafferty's/Greyhound network over a 12 month period, simply purchase your travel in kilometres, from 2,000 to 20,000, and you can travel by bus in any direction on the national coach network to the distance purchased.

Make your own way around Australia in any direction at your own pace.

What a great way to travel Australia.

Unlike the other travel passes, the Aussie Kilometre Bus Pass allows you to backtrack to explore a particular area more than once.

Oz Experience bus tours , Premier bus passes , Easyrider bus tours, Nullarbor Traveller bus tours, Wayward bus tours and Redline Tassie bus passes, all worth investigating if your preference is for bus travel in Australia, just follow the links and find out all you need to know, and don’t forget the prime directive...........................have fun,

John.
