Broome in Western Australia is 2389km north of Perth, the state’s capital, and is five days straight drive or about three and a half hours flying from there.

It’s a long way….

But the journey is well worth it.

Sitting on the western edge of the massive Kimberley region, Broome is the largest town in the Kimberley in Australia’s North West.

It’s a cosmopolitan town with a vibrant social life and one of Australia's most beautiful holiday destinations, with its stunningly white beaches, rich red rock cliffs and brilliant turquoise water, Broome is a popular destination for people looking to get away to relax and unwind.

For the more adventurous Broome is the base to explore the pristine Kimberley and Pilbara region which has its own spectacular and remote attractions.

Broome's Cable Beach, is 22 kilometres of beautiful white sand, kissed by warm, crystal waters and is justifiably world famous and the ideal place to watch the sunset on a balmy, tropical night.

Broome-Cable Beach. Indeed Cable beach may well be the most beautiful beach in Australia and in my mind that probably makes it the most beautiful beach in the world!!

Anywhere in Broome is a ten-minute taxi ride away, Cable Beach on the Indian Ocean is about six kilometres from the township of Broome and Roebuck Bay and the Cable Beach Esplanade is well served by a restaurant and cafe, set on a green grassy area lined with palms.

One of Broome's natural treasures is the Staircase to the Moon.

For three days after the full moon from March to October, reflections stretch out across shiny mudflats creating the beautiful illusion of a long silver staircase.

Something well worth seeing, especially if you’re a romantic…

Another interesting natural attraction is Gantheaume Point, where you can see dinosaur footprints believed to be more than 130 million years old.

The colourful lifestyle and vibrant landscape have made Broome a Mecca for artists, writers and musicians and today it's an oasis of colour, culture and eclectic characters.

Broome's multicultural mix was shaped by a romantic pearling history when Japanese, Filipino and Malay pearl divers arrived in droves seeking their fortune.

Today, thanks to the area's unpolluted waters, Broome's South Sea pearls are among the most coveted in the world. Broome-Chinatown. You can witness first-hand how Broome pearls are cultured at a local pearl farm and pearl showrooms line the streets of Chinatown.

Perhaps you might splash out on a pearl (or two or three!) as the ultimate memento of your trip.

Broome’s Chinatown is also where you'll find art galleries, shops and cafes, the perfect place for some retail therapy. Broome town itself is the busiest part of the Dampier Peninsula with wide streets lined with specialty shops, restaurants, pubs and food stores.

Broome markets are held on Saturday mornings in the tropical gardens of the Court House.

Fresh tropical fruits and vegetables sit alongside colourful stalls of unique souvenirs and products made by locals using materials unique to the Broome area.

The palms trees watch quietly as the laid-back locals go about their business and holidaymakers slip into Broome Time.

The balmy air of historic Broome is filled with the sweet perfume of the frangipani trees and the vibrant colours of bougainvillea can be seen everywhere amid the unique Broome style buildings that nestle amongst the Coconut palms.

The special blend of colonial Australian and Asia cultures has, through many generations, created a style and ambience that is unique to Broome.

Historic buildings in Broome include Cable House now the Court House, the office used to operate the telegraph cable that links Broome with Java.

Broome-the Sun picture theatre. The Sun Picture Theatre in Broome Township is the world’s oldest operational open-air theatre and unusual way to spend a warm Broome evening, as is a slow camel ride along Cable Beach.

Broome is Cable Beach and ancient dinosaurs footprints, Broome is resort-style accommodation, fragrant frangipani and lazy palm trees.

Broome is perhaps the ultimate blend of Australian and Asian architecture, people and culture.

Broome is the brilliant natural light that draws artists to its beauty, a place of galleries and cafes and breweries and festivals.

Broome is gardens overflowing with vibrant colours that are set against the backdrop of Roebuck Bay, with its even more vibrant blue waters.

Broome is the Pearling Capital of the world and Broome is only one small part of what makes Australia’s North West one of the best destinations in the world.

All that having been said, accommodation in Broome can, at times, be very difficult to find and although the town has a lot of building projects underway there is still a lot more demand for holiday accommodation than Broome can supply.

So, regardless of whether you are looking for resort accommodation, a hotel in Broome, or just anywhere to stay near Cable Beach...you must book your Broome accommodation early.

Broome is a very small place but it is also very popular and more and more people are visiting every year.

If you are looking for accommodation in Broome during winter, which is when everyone else is looking to stay in Broome, (because that’s when the region is at it’s best), don’t leave your hotel bookings to the last minute and certainly don’t just drive into town and expect to find somewhere decent to stay, it won’t happen…

Decide when you want to go and what sort of accommodation in Broome or Cable Beach you want and book early.
